As of now my favorite book would have to be The Fourth Stall by Chris Rylander. The story is about a boy, nicknamed Mac, who runs his own business in, you guessed it, the fourth stall of a boys bathroom. If you ever have a problem, want something, need school life a little less harsh, then Mac is the man to talk to. Mac will request money and a favor or to as payment for his service, and he has yet to ever fail at solving a problem. Of course this isn't a one man performance, his co-worker, and friend, is Vince. Vince is often refereed to Mac's right hand man, and i can see why. Vince is always with Mac always helping him and hanging out with him. Before the book, Mac's buisness was running smoothly. Semi-dificult situations rarely appeared. Not today however. Fred, a student, comes in with a huge problem, a problem with the fabeled Staples. Staples is rumored to have droped out of middle school and be the biggest bully you could imagine. Mac, until now didn't believe to much of the rumors of Staples, but now its all so real. Mac has to take a leap of fait and trust those around him even when the line between friend or foe is thin. He may loose it all but you will have to find out in, The Fourth Stall.
What I really liked about the book is that it really captured the way sixth grade guys hang out and talk. The book is very strongly inspired by the GodFather and Film Moires, I found this to be really interesting. It really felt like it was from a sixth grader's perspective. I was very impressed by how quickly i was grasped into Rylander's world. It was a great experience and i would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book of action and friendship. It was very neat how Mac and Staples could be compared to the mafia or mob bosses. The book also has a spark of whitty humor. It would be a lie if i were to say I didnt chuckle along the way of Mac's problems. Chris really understood how modern middle school really is. With all the bullies and rumors, I was impressed by how realistic this was. If i were to rate this book out of five stars I would give it a five easily. There weren't any parts that I felt bored or like they were long stretches of dull literature. The book had a perfect pace and had alot of action (not violence but something always happening) to keep any young reader's attention.
